How to look for a Job in this Economy?

How to look for a Job in this Economy?

In the past few weeks, I have personally seen indicators that things are moving up for the better. News items and articles and interviews have all pointed towards the same Optimism in the Job Market. Even Staffing Agencies have reported that Clients have started to call in with requirements.

Well the Worst is hopefully over.

You need to now get prepared for the coming upswing, especially those that are looking for a Job.

STEPS to FOLLOW in your JOB SEARCH:

  1. Create a Master Resume with all your experience and add everything you can in it. Save it on your desktop titled Master.
  2. Create at least 3-5 more resumes from it depending on your function and title. For e.g Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Financial Analyst, Finance Manager, Asst Controller
  3. Each of these resumes will focus on the skills and experiences as required by the Title and the Job you are applying to.
  4. Basically what I am referring to is CUSTOMIZE your resume to the role that you are applying to.
  5. Then go to different Job Boards like Monster and Workopolis and save each of these resumes with their different titles.
  6. NOW – when you are applying to a particular JOB, you can CHOOSE the resume that best fits the role and then hit SEND, instead of sending the same resume out to different roles.
  7. You must understand that, every position advertised gets at least 150 – 200 resumes. Imagine the plight of the Recruiter screening them.
  8. Which is why when you are able to DIFFERENTIATE and CUSTOMIZE, your resume is more likely to be read by the Recruiter and hence better the chances of getting a call for an Interview.

Hopefully it helps you in your search for the next Job.

How to Apply for a Job through the Internet?

How to Apply for a Job through the Internet?

Most people looking for a Job, sit in fron o f a Computer and register on multiple Job Boards on the internet like Monster, Workopolis, Career Builder, etc.

They then start sending out resumes after resume for jobs they see posted. I have personally known someone that would send out an average of at least 25 resumes in one sitting.

What is the mistake they are making?

Why do they not get a response?

Why do some applicants get an instant response?

I have an amazing Video that I would like to share with you that will enlighten you on this subject.

Do not depend only on Job Boards…………..

A lot of people are getting Laid Off from work and obviously the market is saturated with candidates looking for Jobs. Even more difficult is a situation with Immigrants that have just arrived in Canada.

To get a Job in Canada, for them is a greater challenge. They must consider alternative Methodologies for getting employed in Canada.

Some Important but rarely used methods are:

  1. Networking
  2. Associations
  3. Referrals

Please do not just depend on the Internet Job Boards like Workopolis & Monster but take some initiative and market yourself professionally through other means.

Jobs in the Current Economy………….

Welcome to my Blog.

The current Recession, Economical Gloom, layoffs, companies closing down, credit crunch in the USA is  affecting the global economy severely and in spite of that, people, businesses and countries succeed.
In spite of the current situation in the employment market, I suggest we deal with this situation in a different manner.

My humble recommendations are as follows:

1) Stay Energized – I know it is easier said than done. Keep your spirits high, no matter what, because you control how you feel within. Stay away from the doom media and choose not to be negative. Enjoy the little things in life that give you joy like playing with your kids, a walk in the park, a quiet dinner with a loved one, etc.

2) Use Different Methodologies – Do not depend solely on the Internet Job Boards in your attempt to look for another job, but make use of Networking, Referrals, etc.

3) Elevator Pitch – Sharpen your 30 second pitch. I am referring to your condensed introduction of professional skills and value add.

4) Be Aggressive – Make an extra effort to put out your resume in more places than one. Attend Networking meetings, job fairs, etc. Talk to more Recruiters and build relationships.

5) Focus on Benefits – Tailor your resume and applications for jobs based on benefits accrued to the employer than just on your skills. e.g. how your skills can add to the bottom line of any organization? Cost saving, revenue generation, etc

6) Offer Part Time Help – In case you are attending interviews for permanent positions, offer part time assistance to the employer. They will appreciate the effort and reward you for it in the future.

7) Social Media – Make sure you have a profile built on social media sites like LinkedIn, myspace, facebook, etc. Very critical in the current environment.

8) Be Professional – Do not make a potential employer feel that you are desperate for the job. Be cool and act as though you are going for other interviews as well.

9) Use of Time – Attend interviews during lunch hour if you have to. Preferably do not take time off work in the current scenario, unless you are really fed up with your current job.

10) Gratitude - Be truly grateful for what you already have. Most others do not have that and are willing to offer an arm and a leg for your current job.

11) Look for an Alternative – Research and look for alternative means of generating passive Income. e.g part time work, consulting, internet marketing, affiliate marketing, etc.

12) Be Consistent – Make a conscious effort to do at least one thing daily that will get you closer to your next job or opportunity.e.g. Build a new contact, send out an email, ask for a referral, register with another recruiter.

Finally, make a list of things you already have, like family, home, car, job, friends, health so that you can VALUE that and be THANKFUL to God.

Believe in yourself and Have Faith.
